02The cookies we use
| Category | What it does | Consent needed | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Keeps the site secure and working: your signed in session, load balancing, security tokens and remembering your cookie choices. | No, exempt under regulation 6(4) | Session to 12 months |
| Preference | Remembers choices you have made, such as your progress through the eligibility check, so you do not lose your place if you close the tab. | Yes | Up to 12 months |
| Analytics | Tells us anonymously which pages are used and where people get stuck, so we can improve the site. Aggregated, never used to identify you. | Yes | Up to 24 months |
Your answers in the eligibility check are stored on your own device, not on our servers, until you choose to send them to us.
03Consent
The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 require your consent before we set anything that is not strictly necessary. Non essential cookies are therefore switched off until you accept them, and refusing them will not stop this website working.
We do not treat continuing to browse as consent, we do not use pre ticked boxes, and declining is as easy as accepting. Where we rely on consent, we also record it, and we ask again at least every 12 months.
04How to change your choices
- Use the cookie settings control on this website at any time to change or withdraw your consent.
- In your browser settings, block or delete cookies for this site. Every major browser lets you do this, and most let you clear them on closing.
- Use private or incognito browsing, which clears storage when you close the window.
- Note that blocking strictly necessary cookies will stop parts of the site working, including signing in to your account.
05Third parties
Some pages embed content from third parties, for example video from YouTube on Jorja's story page. We load those in a privacy preserving way and nothing is requested from the third party until you choose to play the video. Once you do, that provider's own cookie policy applies.
Our analytics and hosting providers act as our processors under written contracts. Our privacy notice explains who they are and what safeguards apply where data leaves the United Kingdom.
06More information
Our privacy notice explains everything else we do with personal data, including your rights and how to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office. If you have a question about cookies specifically, contact our Data Protection Officer using the details in that notice.
